Email from Mombasa part II
Dear family and friends,
I hope this email finds you in good spirits.
It has been a very long time since I last emailed you, two months have past (wow, this is becoming a frequent habit). Please accept my apologies, AGAIN!
In this email there is actually no description of my experience in the last couple of months, you will have to wait maybe a month longer. Instead, I have included some pictures of my trip to the South Coast of Kenya, early in September, during one weekend; I think it was my only weekend till now that was relaxing. I went for the first time ever to a resort. This one was definitely worth the wait. : ) But don’t be fooled as this is mostly enjoyed by the expats and tourists. In my next set of pictures, I will show you more of the real local culture of Mombasa.
I am just about finished the VERY long term one. I will enjoy the holidays as soon as the end of term exams are marked and all the report cards are written. I am really burned out and definitely looking forward to a safe and fun three weeks of holidays…
I have taken many pictures of my trip to the south coast and have selectively chosen some (was very difficult) and put them up on a website for you to see the beauty of the coast through my Cannon lens.

Description of Pictures:
1. Picture of a matatu (local transport) taken from inside of another matatu. From Mombasa we took a matatu to the Likoni harbour. From there our matatu as well as other transport vehicles loaded on to the ferry to go over to the South Coast
(its about a 15 min ride).
2. Leaving Mombasa to go to the South Coast via the enormous ferry.
3. View of another ferry taking people back to Likoni harbour, Mombasa
4. Drive through some of the South Coast to reach our resort, about 40 minutes away.
5. R.K Auto…What it used to be back in the days…
6. Some of the beauty along the way.
7. Main Lobby of our resort, Southern Palms Beach Resort.
8. View from our room.

10. Indian Ocean and beach area (Wow, this water salty!! I didn’t realize how much)
11. View of the South Coast
12. A view of the inside of our room.
13. A view of one of the pools and bars at night.
14. Live entertainment in the restaurant.
15. Having a nice breakfast together with some new friends
16. Wow, me chillin by the pool side and listening to some MJ :O while catching up on some reading.
17. Playing some water polo
18. Our host, welcoming us in the lobby. I think I look just a little bit too excited here!
19. During our last day at the resort, we went to visit and have lunch with students at a Madrasa in a small village. Here boys and girls are taught about their interpretation of islam. It is a religious school for boys and girls that teach how to read and recite the Quran and learn some basic subjects. The students also performed a small dance for us to show their appreciation for the lunch we offered. This picture is a view of some the homes that we passed on our way to the school in the village. It was about a 20 min walk from our resort.
20a. Up close and personal with some livestock.
20b. A bare cotton tree.
21. Again some homes made of the natural clay that is found around the area.
22. The madrasa.
23. Some of the boys attending the madrasa.
24. Some of the teachers at the madrasa.
25. Some of the girls attending the madrasa.
26. Some people playing some instruments.
27. The girls performing a traditional dance to show their appreciation.
28. The girls performing a traditional dance to show their appreciation.
29. Some of the homes around the village.
30. Getting ready for Eid.
More pictures of the city and people of Mombasa are yet to come.
Lastly, I would like to thank all of you that replied and commented on my previous email. I was touched by some of the very warm comments and I thoroughly enjoyed reading the responses of people who were sharing and comparing their work experience abroad.
One more thing, what’s going on with the Canadian $$$$$? My work here as become voluntary : )
Warm regards,
Aziz
